Unusual Patio Planter

Image
A couple years ago, I went to California and noticed several places were using livestock tanks for landscaping. I love the look. They would put different arrangements of plants, flowers, succulents, and trees in these. I wanted to do something like this on my patio but, never got to it. Recently, when we when to Napa, I saw them again. This time, Dave was with me and he helped me come home and put a couple together. These were some arranments I saw in California.... so I headed to the nursery...and with their help chose some plants that will live year round. I came home and assembled it, added some wine bottles, and then took some vintage marquee letters and came up with the world "Sip". I only had a few letters which made my wording choice limited. I took a second tank and made a small garden out of it. Above it,  I hung a piece of an old windmill. And then in the meantime, Chopin and Monet chase a cricket. Silly kitties. Have a great we

Handmade U Classes

Handmade U which is held in Omaha, Nebraska offered two outstanding teachers, Kristen Robinson and Ruth Rae. It is always a treat taking one of their classes. Kristen Robinson's Class was A Beautiful Journal in May, a mixed media journal. I loved how everyone put their own touch into their journals. This is a pic of mine. I used the vintage French paper and flower that I got at the brocante in France. I used a mix of old and new fabric in my book.  Ruth Rae's Class was the Story Box of Dreams. We built our own boxes through our creativity to tell our own story, using photos, clipart, words, to bring it to life.  It was a combination of clay, paster, paint and wax. Here is a couple of Ruth's projects. And here are my projects.  I hope you and your family have a wonderful Memorial Day Weekend.  Thank you to the Veterans that have fought for our freedom.

I participated in 4 swaps...that is one of favorite things when attending these events. And for those of you that have no idea what this is, I'll try and give a little more information on how it works. Swap #1 Altered Altoid Tin Swap In this  swap  you are paired with a partner and create an altered altoid tin to be lovingly filled with little treasures from beads to medal to pins to charms, especially for that person. The partner that I made for has 5 cats....so I thought I would make a cat theme for her tin.  Then Michelle Geller, made my tin. I told her I like turquoise, cremes and black and she made it with those colors in mind. Here it is... So beautiful...loved all the vintage items she included and incorporated into the top of the tin.  I really enjoyed making this and think I wi
