GreatThings are Planned for 2024!

2024 started off with Dave being honored as Chisholm Trail Art Council's Ambassador Award Recipient at the 2024 Area Arts Hall of Fame Banquet. Here is the announcement of his honor.

"Super stoked to present our CTAC Ambassador of the Arts Award to Dave Young! He is top-notch the most fun guy to be around and he always brings his enthusiasm to the classrooms each year in our Art Education in Schools program!!

Dave Young’s talent, love and energy for kite-making is very recognizable. He began working for the Chisholm Trail Arts Council in 2006 under the Arts Explosion program – a summer youth art camp held annually since 1991. He also teaches in CTAC’s Arts in Education program where he stated, “Some of my favorite times have been in the classrooms.” Dave has worked with third graders each spring over the past 15 years, teaching them kite-making history and design. “The way I like to promote kite making and construction is by emphasizing the application of art to the kite skin which promotes creativity, ownership, and pride of completion. The most satisfying aspect is when each kite maker experiences their first flight with their newly constructed heavier than air, tethered flying object.”
Dave has won numerous awards from the American Kitefliers Association over the years. His most recent award was the “Gayle Woodall Volunteer of the Year Award” for teaching kite making for 25+ years. “CTAC was a huge contributor to my receiving that award.”

It was truly a thrill for me to see him honored in our community. The hours that I have watched him put together a program for the many classes so each was perfect for the age group or coming up with educational program for a school to incorporate science, geography, math or trig into a kite lesson. He is an amazing guy and Artist.

We have lots of great ideas planned for the year and just finished meeting with our monthly group. I am working on a new web site and it will incorporate Facebook and hoping it will make posting classes and enrollment easier this year. Stay tuned here soon we should be posting classes and events.
